Festival Panafricain du Cinéma et de la Télévision (FESPACO)

Created in 1969 by a group of movie enthusiasts in Ouagadougou, FESPACO is currently the largest film festival in Africa. Institutionalized in 1972 and promoted every two years, the meeting has turned out to be a successful experience in terms of information diffusion and exchange, and the sale of a disperse production that lacks a single launch pad. Financed by institutions from Africa, Europe, and Asia, FESPACO also promotes screenings in the countryside of Burkina Faso, an important initiative in an area where part of the population has no access to cinemas. In Salvador, 18 movies from the “L’Afrique se filme” selection had been screened, including documentary films and fiction, with themes ranging from romance to tradition. Directors Abderrahmane Sissako, awarded at FESPACO 2003 and at the 2002 Cannes Festival for the movie “En attendant le bonheur – Heremakono”, and Moussa Sene Absa, who directed “Madame Brouette”, were present.
