CINEMA
As a continent where oral culture occupies a predominant
position, Africa is also a territory where images and their multiple
meanings play an extremely important role. In partnership with the Embassy
of France in Brazil, the Pan-African Exhibition of Contemporary Art
brings to Brazil an initiative that has contributed decisively for the
mapping, the incentive, the interchange and the dissemination of cinema
in the continent: the Festival Panafricain du Cinema et de la
Television (FESPACO) from Ouagadougou, in Burkina Fasso (Pan-African
Cinema and Television Festival), herein represented by the series “L’Afrique
se filme”, which gathers 18 films selected due to its originality
and contemporarity. As a counterpoint, the exhibition was proud to present
the film, “Filhas do vento” (“Daughters
of the wind”), by Joel Zito Araújo, a feature film with
the largest Black cast in the history of Brazilian cinema. The movie,
a universal drama that narrates the conflicts between women of a same
family, breaks with the stereotypes usually reserved to Afro-Brazilian
actors.
