MARCELLVS L. GANHA OBERHAUSEN E É TEMA DO NOVO FF>>DOSSIER.

“Man.Road.River”, do artista mineiro Marcellvs L., ganhou o prêmio máximo do 51º Festival Internacional de Curtas-Metragens de Oberhausen, na Alemanha. Um dos mais importantes desse formato no mundo, o festival enfatiza a relação das obras em competição com a realidade social, a inovação estética e as diferenças culturais. Na definição do júri que concedeu a “Man.Road.River” o Grande Prêmio da Cidade de Oberhausen, de 7.500 euros, a obra é "um filme minimalista brilhante, que usa seu material visual de forma exemplar e obtém o máximo de efeito alegórico, com uma dimensão enigmática". Uma silhueta que atravessa um rio compõe o único e impactante plano de dez minutos, em preto-e-branco, de todo o trabalho.

Formado em Design Gráfico, Marcellvs L. tem 25 anos, é autor de 18 vídeos e criou o projeto VideoRizoma, método randômico que usa para distribuir sua obra: escolhe destinatários ao acaso e envia a eles pelo correio cópias VHS dos trabalhos, identificadas apenas por números e sem remetente. Foi premiado por “Man.Road.River” no Festival de Curtas do Rio de Janeiro em 2004, e participou da Mostra Competitiva do Sul no 14º Festival Internacional de Arte Eletrônica Videobrasil, em 2003, com “Deleuze enquanto modelo vivo”. Alguns vídeos da série “Rizomas” estiveram na mostra paralela “Investigações Contemporâneas”. O convite para Oberhausen veio depois que os organizadores conheceram seu trabalho em uma seleção de obras da Videobrasil.

A produção de Marcellvs L. é objeto da 12ª edição do FF>>Dossier, projeto da Associação Cultural Videobrasil que publica na web, desde maio de 2004, perfis dos novos expoentes da arte eletrônica brasileira. “’Man.Road.River’, assim como os outros trabalhos de Marcellvs L., parecem reconduzir nosso olhar para aquilo que ainda não percebemos. São potentes recortes do real que, de alguma forma, criam outra temporalidade e outras percepções da vida cotidiana", diz Eduardo de Jesus, crítico e professor de novas mídias e vídeo na Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais, membro do Conselho da Associação Cultural Videobrasil e coordenador do FF>>Dossier. "Gosto muito dos trabalhos de Marcellvs pela força e intensidade com que conduz a sua investigação das imagens e dos processos de produção."

"O Dossier é o espaço de fomento à reflexão sobre as tensões típicas da arte contemporânea hoje em dia, sobretudo as relações com os diversos contextos socioculturais", continua Eduardo de Jesus. "Nas cinco primeiras edições focamos artistas brasileiros. Depois fizemos um recorte de latino-americanos e, em seguida, abrimos para o chamado circuito sul."

MARCELLVS L. WINS AT OBERHAUSEN AND IS THE THEME OF THE NEW FF>>DOSSIER.

“Man.Road.River” by the artist Marcellvs L., from the state of Minas Gerais, won the Grand Prize at the 51st Oberhausen International Short Film Festival in Germany. One of the most important of its kind in the world, the festival places special emphasis on how the works in competition relate to the social reality, aesthetic innovation and cultural differences. According to the jury that selected “Man.Road.River” for the 7,500-euro Grand Prize of the City of Oberhausen, the work is ”a brilliant minimalist film with an exemplary use of visual material, it obtains the maximum of allegorical effect with an enigmatic dimension”. The entire film consists of an impressive ten-minute black and white shot of a silhouette crossing a river.

 A graduate in Graphic Design, Marcellvs L., 25 years old, is the author of 18 videos and creator of the VideoRizoma project, a random method he uses to distribute his work. Under this method, the artist randomly selects addressees and sends them copies in VHS. The tapes are identified only by number and no return address is given. He was among the winners at the 2004 Rio de Janeiro Short Film Festival for “Man.Road.River” and also participated at the Southern Competitive Show at the 14th Videobrasil International Electronic Art Festival in 2003 with the work entitled “Deleuze enquanto modelo vivo” [Deleuze while a living model]. Some videos from his ”Rizoma” series featured in the parallel show “Contemporary Investigations”. Marcellvs L. was invited to the Oberhausen festival after the organizers of the event saw his work among a Videobrasil selection.

 The work of Marcellvs L. features in the 12th edition of FF>>Dossier, an Associação Cultural Videobrasil project that has been publishing profiles of up-and-coming exponents of Brazilian electronic art on the Internet since 2004. In the words of Eduardo de Jesus, critic and lecturer in new media and video at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica in Minas Gerais, an Associação Cultural Videobrasil council member and coordinator of FF>>Dossier, “’Man.Road.River’, like other works by Marcellvs L., seems to redirect our gaze towards what we have not yet seen. They are potent slices of reality that, in some way, create a whole new temporality and other perspectives on every-day life. I like Marcellvs’ work a lot because of the force and intensity with which it conducts its investigation into images and processes of production”.

 “The Dossier is a space for the promotion of reflection upon the typical tensions inherent in contemporary art, above all upon its relations with other socio-cultural contexts”, continues Eduardo de Jesus. “We focused on Brazilian artists in the first five editions before turning to Latin-American artists and then opening up to the so-called southern circuit.”
